A new art exhibition celebrates women being bold this month.
“ATREVIDA: Celebrating the act of being BOLD” is presented by Indy Latina Artists (ILA) in honor of Women’s History Month. The exhibition is open to the public as part of the First Friday art tour from 6-9 p.m. on March 9 at SPACE Gallery at the Stutz building.
“We want the visitors and collectors to experience and collaborate with the dynamic energy of the word ‘atrevida’ through the perspective of Latina artists,” Frances Ruiz, ILA member and show organizer, said in a statement. “We want to show that Latina women, and women in general, can be ‘atrevidas’ when reaching their goals without a negative connotation.”
Using their unique perspectives and individual skills, the participating ILA artists will present an interpretation of “atrevida” — which is the Spanish word for “bold” — through displays of visual art, poetry and music.

ILA is a group of Indy-based Latina visual artists, itching hailing or descended from a variety of Latino countries. The art group was founded by Mary E. Mindiola and Mirvia Sol Eckert in 2021 as a way to build community for Latina artists and form pathways to empowerment, mentorship and showcase opportunities, according to a press release.
“When we are bold and assertive, we serve as positive examples to other women,” Ruiz added. “This is the first ILA show of the year, and we are excited the opening reception will be the day before Women’s International Day.”
“ATREVIDA: Celebrating the act of being BOLD” takes place at the SPACE gallery inside the Stutz building, 1060 N. Capitol Ave, Suite 4-102. The exhibition is free to attend, but guests are encouraged to RSVP.
