Applications are now open for the Trent L. Garrett Fellowship, a two-year program dedicated to fostering the next generation of leaders in real estate development, community lending and neighborhood revitalization. The fellowship, established by the Intend Indiana Board of Directors, honors the legacy of Trent L. Garrett, a longtime advocate for diversity and inclusion in community development.
Applications must be submitted by April 25, with candidates required to provide a cover letter, resume, two references and a short essay addressing one of two prompts: the influence of a mentor on their life or their career aspirations and how the fellowship aligns with their goals.

Garrett, who served more than eight years on Intend Indiana’s Board of Directors, including six as Chair, was a staunch advocate for diversity in the field of real estate development. His leadership and mentorship impacted thousands of lives, and the fellowship was created to honor his dedication to opening doors for others.
The Trent L. Garrett Fellowship offers selected participants a full-time, salaried position with Intend Indiana. Fellows will earn $40,000 annually and receive a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, matching 401(k) and paid time off. The program provides hands-on experience in areas such as affordable housing strategies, project management, community outreach and grant writing.
The program prioritizes candidates from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic groups who are passionate about affordable housing, community development and revitalization. Fellows will be immersed in nonprofit operations and gain exposure to public-private partnerships, real estate finance and community development strategies.

During the fellowship, participants will conduct market research, collaborate with stakeholders, and contribute to affordable housing and lending initiatives. Additionally, they will attend networking events, receive mentorship and access industry certifications.
To be considered, applicants must submit their materials by April 25. The selection process will be conducted by a committee that may include Intend Indiana staff, board members and Garrett’s family and friends.
