The Indiana Repertory Theatre (IRT) is celebrating the holiday season with its annual tradition of “Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol,” presented by Oxford Financial.
Playing on the OneAmerica Financial Stage Nov. 15-Dec. 24, IRT’s Associate Artistic Director cara hinh will direct the beloved classic for a second year in a row. Performed each year from 1980-84, the IRT’s adaptation of Dickens’ novella was written by former IRT Artistic Director Tom Hass. Following a 12-year hiatus, the IRT revived the show on stage in 1996.
Marking its 34th production on the IRT stage, ““Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol” aims to shine a light on “the power of kindness, love, forgiveness, and change as it follows one man’s journey to redemption,” according to a press release.

“Change, the thing that allows Ebenezer his eventual redemption, can feel overwhelming and frightening. However, what the story reminds me is that in community, compassion, and togetherness we find hope,” hinh said in a statement. “Hope will lead us through the long night filled with the ghosts of our past, present and future. With hope and togetherness, I know that we can look at each other, recognize our shared humanity, and build a new day.”
This year’s production will feature several actors from previous years, including Ryan Artzberger, Kayla Carter, Kenneth La’Ron Hamilton, Jennifer Johansen, Rob Johansen and Natasia Reinhardt. Also joining the cast are Hernán Angulo, Cleo Berry, Alyssa Naka Silver and youth actors such as Kerah Jackson, Vivian Morton, Sofia Perlaza and Cate Thomas.
Austin Hookfin, Matt Kraft, Isabelle McNamara-Angel and Sofia Salgado are understudying.
During the run of “Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol,” the IRT will host supplemental programming, including Artist Conversations, which will provide a behind-the-scenes perspective of the show on Nov. 15, Nov. 22, Dec. 7 and Dec. 14. Guests can also attend a Sensory Friendly performance on Dec. 6, an ASL/AD performance on Dec. 7 or the Holiday Traditions event on opening night.
“For more than 30 years, A Christmas Carol has been a treasured tradition at IRT,” Benjamin Hanna, Margot Lacy Eccles artistic director, said in a statement. “We’re looking forward to another holiday season of welcoming back returning families and introducing thousands of young people to this classic work.”
“Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol” is onstage at the IRT, 140 W. Washington St. Nov. 15-Dec. 24. The show is approximately two hours with a 15-minute intermission. Tickets start at $27. For more information, showtimes and special programming, visit irtlive.com.
