Indiana University Health appointed Dr. Michele Saysana as the new president of its Adult Academic Health Center and Metro Region, effective July 27.
Saysana will oversee operations at IU Health Methodist and University hospitals in downtown Indianapolis, as well as IU Health North, IU Health Fishers and IU Health West. She has served in the interim role for the past five months and was selected following a national search.

“I am honored to accept the role of president for the AAHC and Metro Region,” Saysana said. “Our teams serve as a vital resource for our communities across Indiana. I look forward to building on our strong legacy of innovation and excellence, supporting the exceptional care our teams provide and fulfilling our vision of improving the health of all Hoosiers.”
In her new role, Saysana will help drive strategic initiatives, expand access to care and support IU Health’s mission of delivering patient-centered health care throughout Indiana. She will also continue her leadership in developing IU Health’s new downtown hospital and medical campus, a major project expected to redefine health care delivery in the state.
Saysana brings nearly two decades of experience to the position. She previously served as senior vice president of academic medicine for IU Health and executive associate dean for clinical affairs at the IU School of Medicine. From 2022 to 2024, she was the chief medical officer for IU Health’s Adult Academic Health Center.

A faculty member at the IU School of Medicine since 2006, Saysana is also a professor of pediatrics. She became IU Health’s first chief quality and safety officer in 2017 and has played a significant role in local and national patient safety efforts, including as a board member and past chair of the Indianapolis Coalition for Patient Safety. She also represents IU Health nationally through Vizient, a health care performance improvement company.
