The Indiana Music History Project recently received its first sponsorship from the Jim Irsay Collection to expand programming in its 10th year.
“We are honored and proud to have support from The Jim Irsay Collection,” said Rick Wilkerson, Indiana Music History Project executive director. “We know Mr. Irsay recognizes the value and cultural importance of preserving music history, especially music created by our fellow Hoosiers, so we are grateful to him for his confidence and support.”
Irsay, the CEO and owner of the Indianapolis Colts, has an extensive collection of artifacts relating to rock music, American history and pop culture. The collection includes instruments and items owned and used by artists like Bob Dylan, the Beatles, Prince, James Brown, Eric Clapton, Janis Joplin, Elton John, Jimi Hendrix and more.

“From the Ink Spots, Wes Montgomery, Hoagy Carmichael and Cole Porter to the Jacksons, John Mellencamp and Babyface, Hoosiers have over the years produced some of the world’s most popular and enduring music,” said Larry Hall, chair of The Jim Irsay Collection. “We applaud the Indiana Music History Project for its 10 years of work to preserve this rich musical tapestry and educate others about these great Indiana artists and their impact on not just music but greater American culture as well.”
The Indiana Music History Project has a public gallery in Indianapolis with memorabilia, an audio kiosk, and more. It also has traveling exhibits, including one currently at the Central Library on the Jackson 5 and Indiana hip hop.
