With Election Day just around the corner, Vice President Kamala Harrisā€™ campaign is expanding its outreach to an unexpected territory: the world of Fortnite.

As part of a strategy to engage young voters, the Harris campaign is collaborating with Epic Games to create a custom Fortnite map that encourages players to explore civic themes during gameplay.

The new map, dubbed “Build Back Better Island,” is crafted to reflect the campaign’s core values and goals in an immersive environment that appeals to gamers. Players can explore various landmarks and challenges, symbolizing aspects of the campaign’s platform.

From climate change initiatives to racial justice, the new Fortnite map looks to explore many aspects. By gamifying campaign issues, the Harris-Walz team hopes to capture the attention of the millions of gamers who play Fortnite regularly.

In a climate where younger, digitally-savvy voters are increasingly integral, this move could be a game-changer (pun intended) for voter outreach.

Harris has been vocal about her commitment to reaching voters on platforms they are already using. By targeting the gaming community, Harrisā€™ campaign aims to blend popular culture with politics, identifying the influence that games like Fortnite have on younger audiences.

The new ‘Kamala Harris Fortnite’ map and downloadable content is currently available on all platforms.
