Metrobloks, a company that builds modular data centers in underserved urban areas, is proposing a new facility at the intersection of 25th and Sherman Drive, the site of the former drive-in. The company says the center would support low-latency computing for AI, IoT, gaming and other data-heavy services.
Community leaders, however, have raised concerns about potential impacts. They cite high energy consumption that could strain local power grids, significant water usage for cooling and backup systems and air pollution from diesel generators that could affect nearby residents.

A public meeting on the proposal is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 6-7:15 p.m. at Frederick Douglass Park, 1616 E. 25th St. Residents are encouraged to attend.
