At the halfway point in the 2025 legislative session, Gov. Mike Braun held a news conference to discuss the successful passing of several key points in his administrative agenda.

“It’s half-time in my first legislative session, and we’ve already put big points on the board for the Freedom and Opportunity agenda on kitchen table issues like lowering health care prices, putting parents in charge of their kids’ education, cracking down on drug dealers and repeat violent criminals, and making government more efficient,” Braun said.

Key legislative achievements include House Bill 1003, which aims to reduce health care costs through increased transparency and competition, and House Bill 1004, designed to enhance school safety measures statewide.

Braun also emphasized his commitment to property tax relief. He indicated a willingness to veto any property tax legislation that doesn’t provide substantial relief, underscoring the importance of easing the financial burden on residents.  Braun also emphasized support for legislation for IPS and charter schools to share funding.

“I think those resources ought to be shared, and we’ll find the resources to do it. And we’ve not taken anything away from public education,” Braun said.

Looking ahead, Braun outlined priorities for the remainder of the session, including a 5% reduction in state agency spending to create a leaner, more efficient government.

“(This legislative session) there’s been more collaboration with the legislature than we’ve seen in a long, long time,” Braun said. “They’re coming to see me at the residence. We’re having meetings with everyone in here.”

Governor Braun’s administration continues to advocate for policies that promote freedom and opportunity for all Hoosiers, addressing pressing issues such as health care affordability, educational quality and economic growth.

“We’ve had a strong start, and we’re not letting up in the second half. I’m going to continue to work closely with my partners in the General Assembly to get results on our Freedom and Opportunity agenda and achieve historic tax relief for Hoosiers.”
