Indy Parks showed off a major upgrade for an east side park this week.

City and community leaders unveiled the new, covered basketball courts at Wes Montgomery Park. More than $2.7 million in federal relief money was invested in the new project.

The pavilion includes two full-sized basketball courts and two half-sized courts. All the courts are covered under a large pavilion, the only such facility in the Indy Parks system. The city is investing in more than a dozen new basketball court projects as part of ongoing improvements.

ā€œThis pavilion is more than just a new amenity; itā€™s an investment in our community and our youth,ā€ said City-County Councilor Keith Graves in a statement. ā€œBasketball brings people together, and this facility provides a safe and inspiring place to play, connect, and grow.ā€

David Lewis was one of many community members at a recent event celebrating the courts. He said he used to take his son to this park to play basketball, and heā€™s excited to see this new investment.

ā€œItā€™s nice to look at, I mean, the facilities that are available are a lot better than when I was playing ball hereā€¦ Iā€™m sure that the kids will really enjoy it,ā€ Lewis said.

The courts will be open to the public from dawn to dusk. The project is part of a larger investment the city has been able to make in parks in recent years with federal relief fundingmajor grants and other city appropriations.
