Indiana’s public higher education institutions announced a commitment to freeze tuition and mandatory fees for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 academic years at Gov. Mike Braun’s request.
The decision marks the first time since at least 2010 that all 15 institutions, including main and regional campuses, will simultaneously hold tuition flat.
Braun praised the decision, highlighting its focus on affordability and accessibility.
“The commitment made by all of Indiana’s public colleges and universities puts students and parents first and demonstrates to the rest of the country that Indiana is a leader in providing a high-quality education at an affordable price,” Braun said.
The Commission for Higher Education, which oversees tuition and fee recommendations, unanimously supported Braun’s proposal.
The freeze applies to in-state undergraduate students at the following campuses:
- Ball State University
- Indiana State University
- Indiana University Bloomington, East, Indianapolis, Kokomo, Northwest, South Bend and Southeast
- Ivy Tech Community College
- Purdue University West Lafayette, Fort Wayne and Northwest
- University of Southern Indiana
- Vincennes University
Samantha Fleischaker, a University of Southern Indiana student and the Commission’s student member, underscored the importance of this decision.
“Keeping tuition flat keeps the door open for students of all backgrounds, all ZIP codes and all walks of life,” she said. “It’s not just a number. It’s the difference between opportunity and what feels impossible.”
Indiana’s public institutions are now setting an example for the nation by ensuring affordable access to higher education for the next two academic years.
