“This vibrant gathering is inspired by the legacy of the beloved ‘Recorder Picnic,’ which originally started in 1926 and brought together hundreds of families each summer for decades. Just like the original, this updated version will highlight the power of connection, creativity, and culture — all in a family-friendly setting along the White River,” said Robert Shegog, President and CEO of Recorder Media Group.

Organized in partnership with Mirror Indy, a nonprofit online news platform dedicated to telling reflective, inclusive stories, this event underscores the continued importance of independent, community-driven journalism and its role in shaping the future of Indianapolis.

ā€œThe Recorder has always been a community connector. A Family Affair honors our past while celebrating our future — through food, fun, music, and meaningful storytelling,ā€ added Shegog.

ā€œMirror Indy is excited to partner in this celebration of legacy and belonging,ā€ added Ebony Chappel, Community Engagement Director for Mirror Indy. ā€œWe believe in creating joyful, intentional spaces that reflect the voices and values of our people.ā€

Come out, bring your lawn chairs, picnic blankets, and your whole crew to enjoy an afternoon of unity, fun, and pride.
