The Seattle Storm launched an internal investigation on Nov. 17 into allegations of mistreatment by members of its staff.
The inquiry, first reported by ESPN, comes after players raised concerns about their treatment within the team.
The probe marks a rare public controversy for the franchise, which has been a cornerstone of the WNBA since 2000. Known for its strong culture and championship pedigree, the Storm’s leadership faces scrutiny to ensure its internal processes uphold league standards.
The WNBA has not yet issued a comment on the matter. However, the league has a precedent for addressing organizational misconduct.
Earlier this year, the Las Vegas Aces were penalized after an investigation revealed violations involving player treatment and improper benefits. As a result, the Aces forfeited a 2025 first-round draft pick.

If the allegations against the Storm are substantiated, the organization could face consequences. Penalties might include fines, the loss of draft picks or other disciplinary measures intended to deter inappropriate conduct and enforce accountability.
This development comes during a crucial period of reflection for professional women’s basketball. Amid ongoing advocacy for equity and player rights, the WNBA has made significant strides in improving workplace conditions and enhancing transparency.
Nevertheless, this case underscores the continued challenges of ensuring a safe and respectful environment for athletes at every level.
The Storm pledged to cooperate fully with the investigation while taking steps to address any findings. Currently, details of the allegations are not public. The Seattle Storm has yet to release an official statement addressing the nature or scope of the investigation.
