Hoosier families are invited to join Seeds of Caring for a holiday service project at the Indianapolis Public Library.

Seeds of Caring, a youth-serving nonprofit, welcomes children ages 2-12 and their caregivers to join in a hands-on volunteer effort to create “meaningful holiday gifts and service projects” designed to uplift their neighbors and support nonprofits across Central Indiana, according to a press release. Holiday Acts of Kindness will feature sessions at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Dec. 13 at the Indianapolis Public Library’s Fort Ben branch.

“Holiday Acts of Kindness is a wonderful opportunity to help set the tone for kids as they move through the holiday season,” Sarah Diaz, Indianapolis site director for Seeds of Caring, said in a statement. “The event focuses on sharing the gifts we all have within ourselves that can help our neighbors feel seen and cared for.”

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about “the power of giving” while making handmade gifts and notes to “brighten the season” for neighbors across the city.

Gifts and activities for children and families to create include:

  • Gratitude gifts for local garbage collectors,
  • Holiday cards for Meals on Wheels of Hamilton County
  • Baking and memory-making kits for Helping Veterans and Families (HVAF)
  • Boredom-busting activity kits for Firefly Children and Family Alliance
  • Winter bookmarks for library patrons.

Families are also encouraged to bring travel-sized winter care items to donate to Horizon House — including lip balm, lotion or tissues. Small, lightweight items such as these can help meet immediate needs for community members experiencing homelessness, according to a press release.

Holiday Acts of Kindness takes place at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at IndyPL’s Fort Ben Branch, 9330 E. 56th St. The event is free to attend, and each session is open to up to 30 families. For more information, visit seedsofcaring.org
