A team of elite gymnasts, headlined by Olympian Simone Biles, will come to Indianapolis on Oct. 22 for the Gold Over America Tour, which is meant to celebrate female athletes and encourage future generations of gymnasts.
The tour started Sept. 21 and will travel to 35 cities, ending in Boston on Nov. 7.
Based on reports from cities the tour has already been to, the show features gymnastics, lights, background stories and dancers, among other things.
The Indianapolis show is at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse (formerly Bankers Life Fieldhouse). Purchase tickets online at goldoveramericatour.com. There are also premium tickets to join the gymnasts on stage for the finale.
Jordan Chiles: ‘I’m just in a happier place’
Also featured on the tour is Olympian Jordan Chiles, who was part of the silver medal team at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Chiles said in an interview the tour is partly a post-Olympics celebration.
“I’ve always wanted to tour because I always wanted to do what pop artists do,” she said with a laugh. “Actually being able to do this and just having fun with something I love to do is gonna be really, really cool.”
Of course, the Gold Over America Tour (GOAT, if you’re paying attention) doesn’t just come on the heels of Olympic success. It also follows Biles’ withdrawal from some events in Tokyo because of the “twisties” — or the sudden loss of spatial awareness that can be especially dangerous in a sport like gymnastics — and more emotionally complex reasons she explained in an interview with New York Magazine.
Biles and USA Gymnastics were also back in the spotlight in September for a Senate hearing about former team doctor Larry Nassar, who sexually abused gymnasts for years.
