“So the people shouted, and the trumpets were blown. As soon as the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they captured the city.” Joshua 6:20
This is a powerful moment in the history of Israel, a moment that underscores the importance of faith, obedience, and the incredible power of a unified shout. The story of the fall of Jericho, found in Joshua 6:20, teaches us that victory often comes when we follow God’s instructions and shout in faith.
“Your Victory is in The Shout” because sometimes the victory lies in our willingness to boldly proclaim God’s promises before we see them fulfilled. Often times, we wait on the victory BEFORE we shout. But this passage of scripture reminds us that we don’t have to wait until the battle is over, we can shout now!
In Joshua 6:20, we see the culmination of God’s instructions to Joshua and the Israelites prior to their victory. They had marched around Jericho for six days, and on the seventh day, they marched seven times. This obedience to God’s specific instructions demonstrates their faith and trust in Him. The trumpets, blown by the priests, signified God’s presence and power. When the army shouted, it was an act of faith, believing that God would deliver the city into their hands.
There is a significance in the shout that cannot be overlooked. The shout was not merely a loud noise; it was an act of faith and obedience. It signified the Israelites’ belief in God’s promise and their readiness to claim the victory God had assured them. Charles Spurgeon noted that “faith is the loudest shout,” emphasizing that true faith often requires a bold proclamation, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
Here’s how we can apply the shout of victory in our daily lives. First, shout in faith. Just as the Israelites shouted before the walls fell, we too must proclaim God’s promises before seeing them manifest. Our shout is an expression of faith that anticipates victory. Identify an area in your life where you need a breakthrough. Begin to speak God’s promises over that situation. Praise God in advance for your victory.
Second, follow God’s instructions. The victory at Jericho came through precise obedience to God’s detailed instructions. Spend time in prayer and God’s word asking God to give you specific guidance in your decisions. Commit to following God’s instructions even when they seem unconventional.
Finally, recognize spiritual leadership. The Israelites followed the priests who carried the ark of the covenant. We must respect and follow the spiritual leaders God has placed in our lives by supporting and praying for them, and seeking their counsel and guidance as they follow God’s word.
Your victory is in the shout! Our words have power and we must use them to proclaim God’s truths over our circumstances. Regularly declare scriptures and positive affirmations over your life and your household. Speak life, hope and victory into every situation you are facing.
Never doubt again that “Your Victory is in The Shout!”
