INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Democratic lawmakers have shown up on the Indiana House floor for its Thursday afternoon session after skipping a scheduled morning meeting.
Republican Speaker Brian Bosma and Democratic leader Pat Bauer spent more than an hour in a private meeting. Bauer said they discussed the fines that Democrats face for their five-week legislative boycott, but that another walkout isn’t planned.
Bauer told reporters he’s willing to pay the fines, but wants to make sure they’re proper. Most Democrats face fines topping $3,000.
Bauer says Democrats also object to the lack of public testimony in committees on several bills since they returned to work Monday. That’s when they ended their walkout to Illinois that prevented any official legislative business because too few members were present.
