The City of Indianapolis, in partnership with Butler University, will host a ToxDrop event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 11, at Butler’s Hinkle Fieldhouse, 510 W. 49th St. This is the third year the City and Butler have partnered on this event.
“Building a better Indianapolis is a commitment shared by individuals, companies, and organizations throughout our community,” said Mayor Greg Ballard. “Everyone can make a difference and take pride in our city by properly disposing of hazardous waste at our ToxDrop sites.”
Residents of Marion County can use this program to properly dispose of unwanted and unused household hazardous waste. Over the past decade, the City’s ToxDrop program has diverted annually in excess of 1 million pounds of household hazardous waste from the city’s sewers, waterways and landfills.
Items accepted for recycling include:
• Aerosol cans
• Automotive fluids
• Fluorescent light bulbs
• Gasoline
• Household cleaners
• Lawn and garden chemicals
• Lithium batteries
• Mercury thermometers and thermostats
• Paint, stains, and thinners
• Pool chemicals
• Used motor oil
E-waste items accepted at the ToxDrop event include:
• Cell phones
• Computers (desktop and laptop)
• Computer peripheral devices
• Game systems
• Small kitchen appliances
• Stereos
• Televisions (27” and smaller)
• VCRs
