Tribe commemorates Memorial Day, focuses on service members

INDIANAPOLIS — There is no better way to bring in Memorial Day weekend than by celebrating America’s best. The Indianapolis Indians will do just that when they don special camouflage jerseys on Monday, May 28, to commemorate the holiday honoring the nation’s fallen combatants.

“Having our players wear the camouflage jerseys on Memorial Day elevates awareness of our men and women in the military, and provides our fans an opportunity to come to Victory Field and help celebrate the lives dedicated to the service of our country,” said Indians Vice President and General Manager Cal Burleson.

During the game, fans will have the opportunity to bid on the camouflage jerseys worn by Indians players and coaching staff. All proceeds will be donated to the Indiana National Guard Relief Fund.

The Indiana National Guard Relief Fund started in 2003 to provide financial assistance to Indiana soldiers and their families who experienced difficult situations due to the mobilization of family members or in times of financial hardship. The fund is a private, nonprofit corporation with the mission of giving monetary help to soldiers and military families in need.

“We are honored to be a part of the Indians Memorial Day celebration,” said LTC Wes Russell, Indiana Army National Guard Commander. “Their commitment to the armed services doesn’t just stop with Memorial Day; they offer various military discounts and programs like Tickets for Troops that benefit our military families throughout the entire season.”

In addition to commemorative jerseys, the Indians will bookend the holiday week with post-game fireworks shows on Friday, May 25 and Monday, May 28. The Tribe will also offer its popular Monday Dollar Menu, where fans can enjoy hot dogs, Cracker Jack®, peanuts, popcorn and potato chips for just $1 each during the Memorial Day game.

The Indianapolis Indians are set to face off against the Louisville Bats at 7:15 p.m. on May 25 and the Durham Bulls at 6:05 p.m. on May 28. Tickets are on sale at IndyIndians.com or by phone at (317) 269-3545.
