Race weekend is over, however black and white ensembles are still a fun way of getting in the racing spirit. But what will the well-dressed hand be wearing? Students at Tricoci University of Beauty Culture were inspired to put their nail design talents in high gear with a competition that might be called the greatest spectacle in manicuring.
Student Martina Williams took first place honors with her checkered flag manicure. Below she shares ādo it yourselfā tips for putting your best hand forward with a racing inspired manicure:
Supplies:
- Nail polish remover
- Base coat
- Top coat
- White lacquer nail polish
- Black acrylic paint
- A medium striper (small stick for āstripingā the nail)
The process:
- Step 1: Clean the nail plate with nail polish remover
- Step 2: Apply base coat to all 10 nails
- Step 3: Apply white lacquer nail polish to all 10 nails (don’t forget to paint the nail tips/edges ā a process known as capping the nail)
- Step 4: Use a striper to make vertical lines down the nail with the black acrylic paint
- Step 5:Use a striper make horizontal lines across the nail with black acrylic paint
- (Do all 10 nails)
- Step 6: fill in every other black square (Hint: You should not have two black or white squares next to each other
- Step 7: Apply top coat after nail lacquer and paint have dried
