Summit protests ‘sin of mass incarceration’

The Citadel of Faith Church of God in Christ (COGIC) Church is hosting a summit on the sin of mass incarceration on Thursday, April 9 at 7 p.m.

The summit is being held to help members of area faith communities learn how they can stop the prison ‘revolving door’ here in Indianapolis, and ensure that the new Criminal Justice Center coming to the city includes programs for transitional jobs, mental health and alternatives to incarceration, according to a release.

In Indiana, too many families are being torn apart due to incarceration of the mentally ill, those too poverty-stricken to afford bail, immigrant detainees and low-level, non-violent offenders, the release stated.

Councilor Ben Hunter and other city-county council members are expected to attend the meeting at 7676 E. 38th St. For more information, call Ed Witulski at (317) 590-6970 or Juard Barnes at (317) 285-9256.
