Television personality Tomi Rose – host of the Style Network program “Hot Listings Miami” – will be a celebrity judge for the 30th Anniversary Circle City Classic Greek Step Show 8 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Historic Madame Walker Theater in Indianapolis.

A native of Terre Haute, IN, Tomi Rose is acclaimed as a global real estate agent catering to a clientele that reads like a ‘who’s who’ list of sports, music, fashion, and entertainment celebrities. For those less familiar with the concept, “stepping’” is a form of percussive dance in which performers use their entire body as instruments to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken word, and hand claps. Sometimes elements of gymnastics, break dance, tap dance, march or African and Caribbean dance is included in a routine.

The tempo of the dance depends on the routine and sometimes props such as canes are used to accent the theatrics.

Stepping finds its origins in a combination of military close-order and exhibit drill and African foot dances; drawing heavily from the choreography of popular rhythm and blues groups like the Temptations. Growing in popularity with each new generation, “stepping” has been featured in several major motion pictures including “School Daze,” “Drumline,” “Stomp the Yard” and “How She Move.”

The 30th Anniversary Circle City Classic Greek Step Show will start at 8 p.m. following the game between Grambling State and Alcorn State at Lucas Oil Stadium.
