Police say Caseyville bank hit by wanted robber

Police in the St. Clair County community of Caseyville say a man suspected some 10 robberies in the metro-east, Indiana and Tennessee is wanted in connection with the armed robbery of the a UMB Bank there.

Caseyville Police Chief J.D. Roth said the man who robbed the bank there Wednesday afternoon met the description of 37-year-old Indianapolis resident Chad E. Schaffner.

The suspect was described as a white male with a medium build, short-cropped hair, a goatee and a mustache. He has tattoos on his right arm.

After taking an undisclosed amount of money from the bank, the man drove off in a maroon 1996 four-door Chrysler with Tennessee license plate 534 QHC.

Schaffner was released from the Indiana Department of Corrections last December after serving time for armed robbery.
