Walk in the Light Christian Church is now accepting nominations for its “Fathers of Faith and Distinction Awards Banquet.”
The church and the Celebration of Light Committee will honor the outstanding contributions of five living Marion County area fathers who are widely regarded by their children, wives, friends, companies, churches, and social service agencies as among the “best of the best”.
This event will lift up fathers, just a few days before Father’s Day, for the critical role they play in modeling manhood to their daughters and nurturing their boys to be good strong men.
The church will also recognize the lifetime contributions to religion and the making and molding of men and boys by Bishop T. Garrott Benjamin Jr., on of the city’s foremost spiritual fathers. Bishop was the Resident Bishop and Pastor Emeritus of Light of the World Christian Church and, for over 40 years, set the standard for excellence in ministry in the community.
He pioneered and engineered the success of countless other ministers and ministries in this community and beyond and has written several books and articles of growing up boys to become men. Because of his respected counsel given to so many across the religious, political, and societal spectrum, the COL Committee will present Bishop Benjamin with the 2015 “Abba” Award.
The winning fathers will each be presented with a “Father of Faith and Distinction” Award by the Celebration of Light Committee. The award will consist of a trophy, a certificates, honoraria, and media recognition. It will also feature an awards dinner and numerous other honorable mentions, entertainment, testimonials, and expressions of good-will.
The evening will be capped with performances by national and local gospel entertainment acts. So far, the roster includes Men in the Fire and Comedian Donald “Fo Sho” Martin.
The black-tie event will be held on Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Skyline Club at One American Square. It will begin with a private reception at 6 p.m. and dinner and the awards ceremony proper will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are priced at $60 per person. The event will be held at the historic Skyline Club at One American Plaza, in Indianapolis.
Nomination forms can be found in the Indianapolis Recorder newspaper, Light of the World Christian Church, Walk in the Light Christian Church and many others and must be mailed in with an essay by May 30.
