Get delectable fare at Murphy’s

More by this author

Murphy’s Steakhouse has been “serving Indianapolis since ‘77” and based on the food, their experience shows.

This Irish themed restaurant nestled on Keystone and Fall Creek prides itself on three things: high-quality food, value for the customer and friendly service. Every time I’ve been to Murphy’s I’ve gotten all three.

You won’t find any fancy-schmancy dining here, just delectable steaks, seafood and chops.

If you’re looking for more than a soup and sandwich for lunch, Murphy’s is the place you should go. To get your afternoon off to a good start, try one of their appetizers. The crab cake ($7.95) is a great choice as well as the zucchini ($4.95) or the combination platter complete with mushrooms, cauliflower zucchini and mozzarella sticks ($6.95) among other appetizers.

Although Murphy’s does offer burgers, cold cut sandwiches and soup, take advantage of their excellent prices and go for a heartier lunch. Try their Cajun grilled chicken portabella ($7.95), 8 oz. center cut “State Fair” pork chops ($7.95) or the fried lobster ($12.95).

Hot off the grill, is the New York strip ($9.95 for 8 oz.; $14.95 for 14 oz.) or the liver and onions ($6.95).

If you must have a sandwich, try one of my favorites, the Patty Melt ($6.95) or a Recorder favorite, the Open face Ribeye steak ($7.95).

There have been many times I’ve stared at Murphy’s menu and thought “it all sounds good.” When all else fails, order one of their weekly lunch specials.

If you can’t make it to Murphy’s for lunch, then head over for dinner. The dinner menu offers a more extensive selection of their mouthwatering fare.

Begin the evening with the shrimp cocktail priced between $8.95 and $15.95. If one is in the mood for something different, their BBQ Pork chops are a delight. For those who don’t eat pork, order the Chicken Oscar, a grilled chicken breast topped with Murphy’s signature crab stuffing and chardonnay cream sauce ($18.95).

If you’re like me, when I go to a steakhouse, I like to order…steak. My favorite is the Filet Mignon. Murphy’s serves this in an 8 oz. cut with mushrooms or béarnaise sauce ($21.95). Other steaks include Porterhouse, boneless ribeye, petite filet, Beef Oscar and more.

Unlike most steakhouses, Murphy’s also has a wide variety of seafood. It includes sea scallops ($16.95), broiled scrod ($16.95), South African lobster tail ($35.00) and Alaskan King crab legs ($32.00).

To complete the meal Murphy’s offers side dishes, an extensive wine list, desserts and a children’s menu.

Murphy’s doesn’t come with the unnecessary extras like other high end steak houses, but you will definitely get a delicious and filling meal that won’t leave your pockets empty.
