Fans of gospel music are in for a great treat and a rare opportunity.

Legendary gospel act Lee Williams and the Spiritual QC’s has selected Indianapolis as the city to hold a record release party for a new album, and is inviting supporters to participate during a special concert next week.

Williams and his group will perform at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 24 at Second Baptist Church, 3705 Kessler Blvd. N. Dr. The group will be joined by fellow gospel stars Evelyn Turrentine & The Warriors, as well as the Golden Wings quartet.

“This is a historical event for Indianapolis because it is not often that an artist on the level of Lee Williams will come into town to hold an album release party,” said Carlester Daley, founder of LD Gospelfest Promotions, which is organizing the event.

Following their performance Williams and the Spiritual QC’s will sign autograph copies of their latest project, “Fall On Me.”

Favorites of the live gospel music circuit since the late 1960s, Williams and the Spiritual QC’s (QC standing for qualified Christian singers) are best known for the hit gospel albums “Jesus Is Alive and Well” (1996), “Love Will Go All the Way” (1998), the top ten hit “Good Time” (2000) and 2003’s “Right On Time.”

The Golden Wings of Mississippi have enjoyed success as popular live quartet best known for the hit “You Got to Leave it Here,” and have been named one of the top gospel quartets in the world by the National Association of Gospel Promoters.

Turrentine, who is based in Detroit, has been singing gospel music since a young age and began her career with groups such as the Gospel Echoettes and The War on Sin Choir. She gained instant solo success with the classic “God Did It” and won a 2004 Stellar Award for “Go Through.”

Turrentine, who has appeared in Indianapolis for previous concerts, said she is definitely looking forward to returning to the Circle City.

“I’m always exited about any opportunity to see people’s lives being changed through the music God has allowed me to share with them,” Turrentine said. “The greatest legacy a music minister can have is souls being won to Christ, and that’s what I’m trying to do. The most enjoyable aspect of this ministry is having people come up to me and saying a song got through them through a difficult day, kept them from giving up or saved their marriage.”

Daley and LD Gospel Promotions have been organizing events in Indianapolis since 1990, and have brought in artists such as The Williams Brothers, The Mississippi Mass Choir, Luther Barnes and the Canton Spirituals.

“We have had the opportunity to put on some wonderful and uplifting concerts over the years, but I have no doubt that this is going to be the best,” Daley said. “We encourage everyone to come out and join us and be blessed by this positive music.”

Tickets for this concert are $20 for general admission and $25 for VIP admission. For more information call (317) 523-5829.
