Tyrone Lee, 16, has received Scouting’s highest rank of Eagle Scout.
Lee, a member of Troop 276, chartered by Castleton United Methodist Church, is a sophomore at Lawrence Central High School and has been involved in Scouting for nine years. Lee achieved the Eagle rank after demonstrating leadership as den chief, patrol leader and scribe before completing his Eagle project.
Only 4 percent of Scouting’s national membership attains the rank of Eagle.
For his Eagle Scout Service Project, Lee organized an art supply drive to create art kits for youth at Amy Beverland Elementary in Oaklandon. Lee collected more than 600 items including coloring books, drawing pads, and coloring utensils. He also constructed 22 lap trays, complete with crayon holders that will hold 9×12-drawing pads.
There were about 18 volunteers who dedicated additional hours of service to assist Lee in completing his service project from July until September of 2014.
