SoundThought Recordings welcomes Indianapolis’ Bashiri Asad

Detroit, Michigan – A new alliance of creative souls has formed. Detroit-based independent record label, SoundThought Recordings has signed Indianapolis-based indie-soul singer, Bashiri Asad.

From doo-wop-style singing groups to classical vocal training and performances around the country and abroad, Bashiri has soul-stirring vocal prowess. Musical greats Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, and Otis Redding have shaped his love of soul music. It is those voices that echo in Asad’s performances, but it is his own strength and passion, that create a version of soul music only he can render.

During his East Coast tour, Bashiri, took time off to sign to SoundThought Recordings.

“I would be making a huge mistake if I didnʼt sign with this record label,” said Asad from

SoundThought’s studio. “To have a label behind you that cares about the music as much as it cares about the artist is what any performer wants.”

Asad and SoundThought Recordingsʼ founder and owner, Inohs Sivad met last August at the African World Festival in Detroit, where they were both performing.

“I knew Bashiri was unique when I heard him cover ‘Butterfly’ by Jamiroquai,” said Sivad. “He brings such a unique sound and a great spirit to the camp, weʼre too excited about whatʼs taking place.”

Bashiri previously recorded two EPs, “I Am 1” (2010) and “The Space Between” (2011), and is working on a third project—his first with SoundThought Recordings—which is scheduled to be released this fall.
