A judge has denied bond for a 30-year-old man charged in the shooting death of ex-boxing champion Vernon Forrest.
Charman Sinkfield had his first appearance before a magistrate at the Fulton County jail on Thursday morning. Police say he was arrested on Wednesday night driving a black sedan on Interstate 20, wearing a wig that gave the appearance of dreadlocks.
Sinkfield and two other men have been arrested in the case. The three of them are scheduled to appear in court again on Aug. 19. Sinkfield faces murder and weapon-related charges.
Forrest, a native of Augusta, Ga., who lived in Atlanta, was a member of the 1992 Olympic team along with Oscar De La Hoya. The fighter later won welterweight and junior middleweight titles and compiled a professional record of 41-3 with 29 knockouts.
