Fever open preseason with special matinee

More by this author

Just when we were starting to come down to earth after their memorable playoff run, the Girls of Summer are back to entertain us and, hopefully, to capture that illusive Womenā€™s National Basketball Association title in the process. The Fever will open up the preseason portion of their schedule on May 7 against the Chicago Sky at Conseco Fieldhouse. The game will feature numerous pre-game events that have been specially designed for children.

In partnership with the Childrenā€™s Museum of Indianapolis, the Choices for Champions Educational Program will begin at 10 a.m. with a presentation by the museum, as well as appearances and comments from Fever standout Tully Bevilaqua and WISH TV meteorologist Angela Buchman.

For just $10, children can attend the presentation, which includes a game ticket, lunch, and various concourse activities.

For more information and to purchase tickets, call the Fever hotline at (317) 917-2528.

Fever Notes: The Fever will open the preseason without a number of their stalwarts in uniform. Perennial All-Pro Tamika Catchings, Katie Douglas, and Tammy Sutton-Brown are all participating in the Turkish basketball league finals and will not arrive back in the United States until later.

However, fans will get their chance to see first round draft pick āˆšJene Morris, who played her college hoops at San Diego State.

Look for Morris to make an impact this year for the Fever.

The Fever pre-season schedule continues on May 10 as they travel to Chicago to again play the Sky at AllState Arena.

The regular season home opener for Indiana is May 15 at Conseco against the Washington Mystics. Tickets are still available. Come out and support a great group of ladies.

Danny Bridges, an admitted NBA junkie, who now realizes the WNBA is certainly more fundamentally sound and as a result more entertaining to watch, can be reached at (317) 578-1780 or Bridgeshd@aol.com.
