Bypass surgery to sideline Indianapolis prosecutor

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ The prosecutor for Indiana’s largest county is expected to be out for several weeks after undergoing triple cardiac bypass surgery.

Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry was scheduled for surgery on Monday. His office says the 62-year-old Curry drove himself to an Indianapolis hospital on Friday after feeling chest pains.

Cardiologist Ed Fry told The Indianapolis Star that Curry suffered a very small heart attack, but likely had no permanent damage. He says Curry has an excellent prognosis for recovery.

Curry won election as prosecutor last November and took office Jan. 1.

He likely will spend four to seven days in the hospital following surgery and then several more weeks recuperating.

Curry’s top deputies will oversee the office while he is out.
