Add some excitement to your Tuesday night with live music, fun people and delicious tacos. On the first and third Tuesday of each month, local artists will gather at the Southern Cross Lodge 39 to share their talent at Taco Tuesday & Open Mic.
Taco Tuesday & Open Mic is the brainchild of Charles Bradshaw, a community activist and music lover, and Earl Phillips, owner of music label Broke Street Billionaires. The pair wanted to create an event to raise money for the Lodge’s community efforts, and they felt an open mic night would be a perfect way to bring the public together.
“I’m widely known for my love of tacos as well as music, and Charles has that love, as well,” Phillips said. “He actually called me after I made a post creating the hashtag #TacoCrushTuesday with the idea of mixing the tacos and music together and having a night when people can enjoy entertainment and wind down.”
Though affordable $2 tacos draw many spectators, they hope the local talent is what will keep the community coming back for seconds.
“Too bad they can’t put flame emojis in the newspaper. Amazing talent showed up (to our first event),” Bradshaw said. “There was a hip-hop cypher, serenading vocals, a little poetry, great tacos and a chill vibe. Chuck Mason kicked off the show, then the emcees took over and put on a show. Later on, Human Aquilah’s vocals blew everyone away. Great atmosphere and lots of crowd participation. Feeray set off the cypher to end the night with some bars.”
Phillips hopes Hoosiers will support the event because it gives local artists an opportunity to showcase their skills. It also gives the community a chill environment to kick back with friends.
“Everyone loves tacos. This event is for the people. Words cannot express the amount of dope energy that spread throughout the room. There was so much love for everyone’s talent. It is a great event for networking. Let’s eat, spread love and have a good time,” said Phillips.
The event takes place every first and third Tuesday of the month at Southern Cross Lodge 39, 1544 Columbia Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46202, from 6–10 p.m.
