Holidays arrive at Children’s Museum

More by this author

We might not yet be dashing through the snow, but the holidays have arrived at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.

Visitors can celebrate the holiday season at the museum with the return of seasonal favorites such as Jolly Days Winter Wonderland, visits with Santa, and the ever-popular Yule Slide.

Here are some details about the seasonal favorites:

Jolly Days Winter Wonderland – through Jan. 8.

The day after Thanksgiving, the annual Jolly Days

Winter Wonderland exhibit opened for another season. Visitors will take part in a number of seasonal favorites including skating in their socks on an indoor “pond,” climbing and sliding on the Snow Castle, trying their luck at “ice” fishing, and pretend-baking holiday goodies in the Tradition Kitchen.

For many visitors, a highlight of their trip to Jolly Days includes a visit and photo with Santa who will be waiting to hear the wishes of young museum visitors.

Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz – through Jan. 8.

The classic tales from the Wizard of Oz continue in Lilly Theater through Jan. 8. Join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Wizard as they experience new adventures in strange new lands. Dorothy once again finds herself far from home, and it will take wit, friendship and magic to get her back where she belongs. Performance dates vary; a full list of performance dates and times may be found online at childrensmuseum.org/lilly-theater.

SpaceQuest Planetarium – through Jan. 8.

Visit the SpaceQuest Planetarium for special offerings this holiday season. Cosmic Canopy reveals how to find stars and planets in the Indiana night sky. Season of Light takes you on a special journey through the winter holidays and its many cultural traditions. Go to childrensmuseum.org/planetarium to see the full list of show times.

Free Family Night: Toys and Traditions – Dec. 6, 4-8 p.m.

Children and their families can discover The Children’s Museum’s rich collection of holiday toys during a free admission evening on Dec. 6. The first Thursday of each month the museum opens free of charge from 4 to 8 p.m.

Christmas Eve Free Admission – Dec. 24, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In celebration of the season, Children’s Museum will have a free admission day on Christmas Eve from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children are invited to visit Jolly Days to get in those last-minute requests with Santa before he leaves for his big night.

Countdown to Noon – Dec. 31, 10 a.m. to p.m.

Families are invited to participate in the excitement of an early countdown by celebrating the New Year with a Water Clock countdown to noon. Activities will begin at 10 a.m. with an exciting countdown taking place in the Sunburst Atrium at a reasonable hour for the younger members of the family.

More information on museum exhibits, performances and events may be found online at childrensmuseum.org, or by calling the museum at (317) 334-3322.
