Beware, people posing as IPL employees

More by this author

Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL) has been made aware that one or more people have been contacting IPL customers and improperly identifying themselves as IPL employees calling on the company’s behalf.

The caller or callers have attempted to mislead customers by saying that they are obtaining credit card or checking account information so that payments can be made to the customer’s account.

IPL cautions customers not to release personal information without confirmation that the person on the phone is an IPL employee. In the event an IPL employee initiates customer contact, either by telephone or in the field regarding an overdue account, that employee will have specific and accurate account information available.

In addition, if an IPL employee makes a personal visit to a customer’s property regarding an account or service, that representative will have an IPL issued identification badge for employment verification. Any person identifying himself as an IPL employee should be prepared to provide proper identification. Most IPL employees who would need to enter a customer’s home will be in uniform. All IPL employees carry photo identification cards. Suspicious persons should be reported to the police immediately.
