ATLANTA (AP) Cascade United Methodist Church in Atlanta has given Morris Brown College $22,000 to help the Historically Black College raise $500,000 to settle a debt with the U.S. Department of Education.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the college has until Aug. 24 to pay the federal government $500,000 and eliminate a debt of nearly $10 million.
The college says it had raised $365,000 by mid-July and expects to raise it all.
The college owes more than $30 million to multiple creditors. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools revoked its accreditation in 2003, citing financial mismanagement.
