Mayor announces opportunities to participate in 2012 Homeless Connect

More by this author

Mayor Greg Ballard was joined today by representatives of the Coalition for Homelessness Intervention and Prevention (CHIP) to announce ways to become involved in the 2012 Indy Homeless Connect. Ballard and First Lady of Indianapolis Winnie Ballard serve as honorary co-chairs for the event, which will take place on Thursday, April 11, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Indiana Convention Center, Hall I.

Ā

ā€œThis event connects some of our city’s most vulnerable with services they need not just on one day but moving forward throughout the year,ā€ saidĀ  Ballard. ā€œIndianapolis is filled with compassionate people who come together to support our neighbors, and I encourage our many engaged residents to think about volunteering or contributing in other ways. These life-changing services have a tremendous impact on individuals and families, and we need volunteers, donors and others to spread the word about this great day of caring.ā€

Ā

Now in its seventh year, this one-day event offers homeless clients dozens of core services such as acute medical care, mental health counseling, legal advice, employment guidance and housing assistance – all under one roof. Indy Homeless Connect also provides extra services, like free phone calls, books and haircuts.

Ā

Last year, more than 650 volunteers and 100 organizations served the needs of more than 1,000 homeless neighbors. Residents, businesses, service providers or charitable organizations interested in volunteering or making donations to Indy Homeless Connect should visit www.chipindy.org. or call (317) 472-7631
