A judge says he will give a sentence of life in prison without parole to a man convicted of killing three children and four adults during a robbery at an Indianapolis home.
Marion Superior Court Judge Robert Altice said Friday that 31-year-old Desmond Turner deserved to spend the rest of his life behind bars for one of the worst mass slayings in the city’s history.
Altice on Thursday found Turner guilty of seven counts of murder and other charges. Turner waived his right to a jury trial in exchange for prosecutors dropping their request for the death penalty.
At a sentencing hearing Friday, the judge rejected defense arguments that doubts over Turner’s guilt merited a less severe sentence. Turner is to be formally sentenced Nov. 20.
