Comedian and actor Mike Epps will return to Indianapolis on Saturday, Sept. 6, to host the second annual Free Community Concert at Washington Park.
The family-focused event begins at noon and will feature national music acts, food trucks, community vendors and a variety of activities designed to bring residents together. Performers include Zapp, Carl Thomas, Michel’le and Jon B.
Organizers said the celebration is meant to highlight the power of music, art and community in supporting mental health and overall well-being. In addition to live entertainment, the Indianapolis Colts will sponsor a youth area with supervised activities for children and teens.
The event is presented with the support of the Mike Epps Foundation, Pink Street Productions, Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, Marion County Public Health Department, Department of Public Works, Indy Parks, Bar-B-Q Heaven, Robinson Facility Supplies, AFSCME Local 725, Northside Bar & Grill and the City of Indianapolis.
Admission is free, and thousands of community members are expected to attend. To accommodate guests, three Park & Ride locations will provide free shuttle service from noon to 6 p.m.: Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church at 3801 Forest Manor Ave., Edna Martin Christian Center & Legacy Campus at 2259 Ralston Ave. and KIPP Indy at 1740 E. 30th St.
Event guidelines prohibit dogs, tents, alcohol and glass bottles. Guests are encouraged to use ride-sharing services such as Uber and Lyft for easier access, as parking will be limited.
Washington Park, located at 3130 E. 30th St., will host the event for the second year in a row. Last year’s inaugural concert drew thousands of attendees for an afternoon of music and community connection.
