BLOOMINGTON, IN – March 11, 2026 – Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Indiana highlighted its $100,000 investment in Women’s Fund of Central Indiana during a media visit at Tandem Postpartum House in Bloomington, demonstrating how community-based partnerships are improving health outcomes for women and families across the state.

The investment includes $25,000 for the Women in Health Giving Collaborative, which mobilizes philanthropy to address gaps in women’s health, and $75,000 in microgrants supporting organizations serving rural and underserved communities across Indiana. Funding has already been deployed to grantee partners working to improve outcomes for women and girls statewide.
During the event, Anthem and Women’s Fund leaders toured Tandem Postpartum House, observed a Baby Movement class, and met with staff and participating families to see firsthand how philanthropic funding translates into direct support for women during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Indiana continues to face persistent challenges impacting women’s health and stability. According to the State of Women in Central Indiana Report, 1 in 10 Hoosier women avoids medical care because of cost, and Indiana ranks third in the nation for maternal mortality, with 44 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2022. At the same time, women shoulder a disproportionate share of caregiving responsibilities, with nearly one in four Hoosier women providing care to someone with health challenges.
“We believe strong communities begin with strong women and families,” said Lynn Scott, Medicaid Plan President for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Indiana. “Our partnership with Women’s Fund builds on our shared commitment to improving health, stability, and opportunity for women and girls across the state. When women are supported, families and communities thrive.”
Tandem Postpartum House provides holistic, community-based perinatal support designed to improve maternal health experiences while fostering connection and choice for families.

“Seeing this work in action reinforces why community-based solutions matter,” said Tamara Winfrey-Harris, president of Women’s Fund of Central Indiana. “Organizations like Tandem Postpartum House are meeting families where they are, providing support that meets the very real needs of women in the community.”
Microgrants through this initiative will continue to strengthen grassroots organizations across all 92 Indiana counties, helping local leaders address immediate needs while advancing long-term solutions to improve health outcomes for women and families.

Women’s Fund and Anthem share a common goal: to ensure that every woman and girl in Indiana has the tools, resources, and support to live a healthy and fulfilling life. Through this partnership, the organizations are expanding programs that meet immediate community needs while laying the groundwork for lasting progress.
