Walk in September will raise awareness for children with apraxia

Kelly Hartman of Indianapolis is coordinating the 2nd Annual Indianapolis Walk for Children with Apraxia of Speech event on Sunday, September 21st at Ben Davis University. All proceeds will benefit important apraxia programs and research of the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America (CASANA).

Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a very challenging and complicated neurological speech disorder in children. This little known disorder makes it difficult or impossible for children to accurately produce sounds, syllables, and/or words despite having a good understanding of language. The Walk for Children with Apraxia of SpeechĀ® is held across the country as a means to heighten awareness and funding.

ā€œThis is our second year coordinating the walk for the Indianapolis area. Our son Jackson was diagnosed with apraxia at the age of 3, and because of the dedication he has shown, he has come such a long way! We will always focus on bringing apraxia awareness to the area and that is why we are happy to come back this year to coordinate the walk. We can’t wait to meet more families this year, and to hear everyone’s individual stories. We will always be dedicated to helping every child find their voice!ā€ Kelly says.

The 2nd Annual Indianapolis Walk for Children with Apraxia of Speech is open to all adults and children. On-site registration and check-in on September 21st begins at 2:00 PM, with the Walk starting at 2:30 PM.

Anyone interested in registering, making a donation, or learning more about the event can contact indianapolisapraxiawalk@yahoo.com or visit the event website at http://secure.apraxia-kids.org/indianapoliswalk.
