Sign up now for the first annual Indy Metal Walk & Fun Run at North Central High School’s 5K cross country layout, sponsored by the Indianapolis Colts, in conjunction with Methodist Sports Medicine and ATI Physical Therapy. The event scheduled for Saturday, October 11, will celebrate triumph over pain and a return to active lifestyle.

“An event to bring awareness to arthritis and joint replacement is something we have been planning for several years,” said John Hur, M.D., Methodist Sports Medicine Orthopedic surgeon. “Thanks to the help of some wonderful sponsors like the Indianapolis Colts and the support of ATI Physical Therapy we have the makings for a very special day for this growing population, their friends and family members.”

This unique event honors individuals who have overcome the challenge of a joint replacement or other orthopedic implants. The day celebrates their return to an active lifestyle, and is also open to their family and friends, plus runners and walkers of all skill levels. Same day registration will open at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the event with the Indy Metal Walk & Fun Run starting at 10:15 a.m. Early registration, donations and volunteers can sign up by going to www.methodistsports.com or www.ATIfoundation.com.

“We’re excited to bring our Metal Walk & Fun Run for the first time to the Indianapolis community,” said Mark Schodrof, VP of Operations for ATI. “This event has been very well received in ATI’s other communities. At the same time, we are supporting two wonderful organizations in their non-profit mission to enhance the lives of others.”

The majority of the North Central High School course is on grass. The event will not be officially sanctioned or chip timed. There will be a clock at the finish line for those runners and walkers interested in viewing the approximate time as they finish. Prizes will be awarded to groups that bring the most participants to the event and those meeting various criteria pertaining to pledges and donation levels.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Methodist Sports Medicine Research and Education Foundation and the ATI Foundation. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the family of ATI physical therapist and Indianapolis area resident Megan Day, whose young daughter Alaina is battling Neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer.
