An explosion destroyed a house in the central Indiana city of Alexandria, badly burning a 20-year-old man who was inside.
Alexandria fire Capt. Jim King says the house had collapsed and was engulfed in flames by the time crews arrived Tuesday evening. Derek Noland was taken in critical condition to the burn unit of Wishard Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis.
No one lived in the house, which is owned by Noland’s father. Chris Noland lives next door and says he uses the house for storage.
King said the state fire marshal’s office had been asked to help determine what caused the explosion. The blast and fire caused littered nearby yards with debris and damaged the siding of neighboring houses.
