Marian University Names Dr. Anita Siccardi Dean of the School of Nursing

INDIANAPOLIS – Dr. Anita Siccardi has joined Marian University as dean of the School of Nursing, effective September 1. She will lead the school, which was accredited in 1975 and has nearly 500 students currently enrolled in bachelor of science in nursing programs.

Siccardi has extensive experience leading academic programs; most recently she was the program director for the master of science in nursing program at University of Indianapolis. In 1990, she joined the Army Nurse Corps, a division of the U.S. Army Medical Department. During her service with the Army, Siccardi served as a chief of nursing administration house supervisor for the 98th General Hospital in Nuremburg and section supervisor for the 128th Combat Support Hospital in Saudia Arabia, where she was responsible for an 80-bed minimal care/expectant unit during the Persian Gulf War.

Siccardi helped establish the wellness program at St. Augustine Home for the Aged in Indianapolis, and has maintained an active interest in nursing practices related to caring for the elderly. She was a founder and officer of the Central Indiana Gerontological Nursing Association, past president of the Board of Directors of the Central Indiana Council on Aging, and former board member of the National Gerontological Nursing Association. She has also published a variety of articles on aging and elder care, and participated in research related to chronic illness, depression and social isolation, and spirituality in older adults. Recently, the Indianapolis PBS affiliate WFYI television interviewed Siccardi for the program When Did I Get Old?, which will air on November 19 at 9 p.m. on WFYI 1 (20.1)

Siccardi earned a bachelor of science in nursing from Texas Woman’s University, a master of arts in education from the University of Pittsburgh, a master of science in nursing (primary health care) from Indiana University, and a doctorate of higher education administration from Indiana University. She is a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Carmel, Indiana.
