“font-family: Verdana”>Indiana Miss Basketball Skylar Diggins of
South Bend Washington will lead the Indiana Girls All-Star team
when they face the Kentucky All-Stars in June.
“font-family: Verdana”>Stan Benge of Class 4A state champion Ben
Davis will coach the team, which the sponsoring Indianapolis Star
announced in its Thursday edition.
“font-family: Verdana”>The team is led by three players considered
among the best produced by the state in recent years: the Notre
Dame-bound Diggins, Heritage Christian’s Kelly Farris (Connecticut)
and Ben Davis’ Alex Bentley (Penn State).
“font-family: Verdana”>Bentley will be joined by her Ben Davis
teammate DeAirra Goss (Western Michigan). Other Indianapolis-area
players selected include Hamilton Southeastern’s Courtney Osborn
(Miami of Ohio), Carmel’s Chrissy Steffen (Bowling Green), and
Eminence’s Aulani Sinclair (Indiana).
“font-family: Verdana”>Benge said he is impressed by the perimeter
and wing players, but the lack of a true post player concerns him.
Terre Haute South’s Dragana Grbic (Butler) is a likely candidate to
fill that spot.
“font-family: Verdana”>Rounding out the roster are Skyler Gick
(Benton Central), Ta’Kenya Nixon (Michigan City), Lecretia Smith
(Fort Wayne Elmhurst), Lily Svete (Penn) and Sydney Weinert (Fort
Wayne South Side).
“font-family: Verdana”>The Indiana All-Stars play their Kentucky
counterparts at Conseco Fieldhouse June 13 and at Bellarmine
University in Louisville, Ky., on June 14.
