Free music, movies in Indy Parks

Celebrate Indianapolis’ performing arts this summer as Indy Parks produces a full season of outdoor music, movies and more near you.

The Eagle Creek Park Marina is offering “Jazz on the Point,” with Kenny Phelps and Company on June 22.

“Jazz on the Point” starts at 6:30 p.m.

Riverside Park Community Center will feature a presentation of the musical “Is That Your ā€˜Reel’ Hair?” by Tiffanie Bridges on June 23 at 6:30 p.m.Ā The musical will be presented again at Brookside Park Community Center at 6:30 p.m. June 29.

The Irvington Artist Series at Ellenberger Park will feature The Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra at 5 p.m. June 18.

The alternating blues and jazz series at Watkins Park continues with On Cue June 12 and Brandon Meeks June 26. Both concerts begin at 5 p.m.

There will also be free movies in some parks in June. “Megamind” will be the feature on June 20 at Christian Park. Movies are indoors and begin at 7 p.m.

Cynthia Layne will perform on the steps of the Washington Park Community Center at 1 p.m. June 11.

Festival of the Americas concert

The Indianapolis Children’s Choir will have a concert in celebration of the music of the Americas on June 12 at 4 p.m. at Clowes Memorial Hall on the campus of Butler University.

Tickets are $12 in advance and $13 at the door. To purchase tickets in advance, visit the Indianapolis Children’s Choir office, located in Lilly Hall on the campus of Butler University.

Brenda Williams to perform at Columbia Club

Indianapolis singer Brenda Williams will perform at The Cabaret at the Columbia Club, 121 Monument Circle, at 8 p.m. June 17. Williams explores the idea that while everyone gets older, you can still be young at heart.

Tickets range from $25 to $45 with an additional $12 food or beverage minimum.

Free admission for military, families

This summer, Conner Prairie Interactive History Park in Fishers is offering free admission to active-duty military personnel and their immediate family members now through Labor Day.

Participants can attend free events at Conner Prairie from Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. through 5 p.m. as well as Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Free admission also applies to Conner Prairie’s celebration of the Glorious Fourth, a patriotic holiday festival, July 2 through 4.

Indy Jazz Fest launches new web site

Indy Jazz Fest has launched its redesigned web site, creating a fresh look to coincide with an expanded overall mission in preparation for the 2011 festival.

The full schedule, artist line-up and ticket information is available at www.indyjazzfest.net.

This year’s event will be held from Sept. 12 to 17. Various artists will be featured at a range of venues throughout the city leading up to the festival’s headlining event and finale Sept. 17 beginning at 11 a.m. on three stages at the Indianapolis Art Center in Broad Ripple.

Green Cleaning Workshop

Have fun while learning to “go green” at the Morris-Butler House’s Green Cleaning Workshop.

Attendees will leave with homemade cleaning products to use as well as the knowledge of how to recreate these items.

For $10 attendees will learn to create natural cleaning supplies that are right out of the pages of a 19th century cookbook and at a fraction of the cost of modern cleaning agents.

The workshop takes place June 18 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Morris-Butler House, 1204 N. Park Ave.
