Naptown fans of versatile singer-songwriter-musician Jenn Cristy have a chance to catch the Bloomington-based artist live in concert Sunday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at Don’s Hall Castleton Grill.
Cristy, a former IU swim team star, first garnered national attention as a backup singer for Hoosier rocker John Mellencamp on his 2001 tour, which also allowed her to showcase her range on the flute, piano, percussion, organ and violin. A year later, the classically trained musician was on tour again, this time with her own band and her third album, Hotel Confessions. Cristy has cited Ben Folds, Pink, Bruce and Queen as among her musical influences, but has stated her intent is to create a unique soul-rock combination. This Indiana artist has been compared to Matchbox 20, Billy Joel, Adele, and Five For Fighting.
Cristy’s performance style is also noted for its versatility, as she can switch effortlessly from an intimate, expressive singing style, as if puckishly inviting the audience to join her in a secret, to a braids-swinging, rump-shaking, high-energy performance that rocks the house.
