On May 7, the Wishard Farmers’ Market will kick off its sixth season of fresh and local produce, fresh baked goods, plants, honey products and other market items.
Each Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., through September 10, the lawn in front of the Ott Building at Wishard Memorial Hospital, 1001 W. 10th St., will be transformed into a farmers’ market with several vendors, local farmers, a kettle corn shop and bakers. Duos food truck will again be part of the weekly activities. This is a new location for the market. Signs will be displayed to direct market goers to the location.
The Wishard Farmers’ Market is part of the innovative Wishard Wellness program. Wishard Wellness began in 2005 as a way to encourage employees to place wellness and health as a top priority. Since its inception, the program has expanded to include Simple Steps to Wellness, where Wishard staff members are rewarded with various health-related prizes for their efforts toward wellness; the Wishard Wellness Gardens, a way for employees to get outside and gardening during lunchtime and on breaks; and Simply Escape, a mobile spa and workout area available for all departments to use to de-stress while at work.
“Wellness is part of our culture here at Wishard-Eskenazi Health,” said Mary Robbins-Nierste, RN, director of Wishard Wellness. “We’re committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle for our patients, guests and staff, and the Farmers’ Market is another way we can do that.”
While the program’s aim is to attract Wishard-Eskenazi Health employees and others on the IUPUI campus, anyone is welcome to stop by and visit the Wishard Farmers’ Market. While there is limited public parking near the market, the Wishard Parking Garage is accessible for patrons and is located at 1002 Wishard Blvd. If you have any questions about the Wishard Farmers’ Market, call (317) 630-7374.
