The Eskenazi Health Foundation recently announced that the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation has awarded a grant to support a new project to encourage early prenatal care and support healthy outcomes for both mother and baby.
The Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation awarded the Eskenazi Health Foundation a $95,000 grant for the Wishard Family Beginnings: Encouraging Early and Sustained Prenatal Care to Ensure Healthy Birth Outcomes program. The funds will be used to promote healthier birth outcomes by addressing the behaviors and socioeconomic factors that place maternity patients at risk for adverse birth outcomes.Ā Ā
“Regular prenatal care is vital for both mother and baby and allows physicians and health care providers to monitor how a pregnancy is going and to spot any potential health problems before they become serious,” said Dr. Elizabeth Ferries-Rowe, OB/GYN service chief at Wishard Health Services. “Some pregnant women may experience complications like gestational diabetes or preeclampsia. But with regular prenatal care, youāll be better able to manage any health issues that come up.”
Specifically, the funds will help the Wishard Family Beginnings program, which encompasses all of Wishardās prenatal, labor and delivery, postpartum, and newborn care.Ā Ā
“We want to thank the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation for their generous support of Wishard Family Beginnings,” said Ernest Vargo II, CFRE, president and CEO, Eskenazi Health Foundation. “This support will contribute greatly to our mission to care for the most vulnerable members of our community.”
