A Maryville High School valedictorian has been awarded the Peyton Manning Scholarship at the University of Tennessee.
Indianapolis Colts player Peyton Manning, a former Vols quarterback, presented the award to Joseph Hunter Tipton during a ceremony Monday on campus.
The scholarship has been given annually since 1998 to a first-year student participating in the university’s Honors Program. The Manning Scholarship covers the costs of tuition, room and board.
Tipton was captain of the cross country and track teams and is the eighth in-state recipient and the first from Maryville.
