The YMCA of Greater Indianapolis is looking for enthusiastic and caring adults who are willing to volunteer their time to students involved in the YMCA’s Youth and Government Program.
The long-running program has an excellent reputation for instilling social responsibility into young people in grades 8-12, by engaging them in the civic process.
Ideal candidates would be adults who work in the legal, court, communications and legislative fields, but anyone who has a desire to help today’s youth are encouraged to volunteer.
One of the program’s largest events include the student-run Model Legislature, which takes place each year in January. Teens from across the state come together at the Statehouse in Indianapolis to write bills, debate ideas, argue in the Supreme Court, serve as elected officials and capture all the events of the weekend for the newspaper. Several volunteers are needed to help make this event a success.
If you are a responsible adult who is passionate about today’s youth, consider volunteering your time with the YMCA’s Youth and Government program by contacting Amanda Moore at (317) 940-9542 or amoore@indymca.org.
