Indy Parks now hiring for hundreds of summer jobs

More by this author

Summer is just around the corner, and Indy Parks is hiring for hundreds of seasonal jobs. Lifeguard positions in particular provide an ideal summer employment option for high school and college students, teachers looking for extra income during break, or older adults looking to become more involved in their community.

Indy Parksā€™ lifeguards are certified in a 3-day program that covers lifeguarding skills, water rescue techniques, First Aid, and CPR.

The training and skills will stay with you well past summer, as former lifeguard Jason Kocher knows firsthand. ā€œLifeguarding for Indy Parks was one of my first jobs, not my first job, but the first job that I really liked!ā€ says the owner of Dickā€™s Bodacious Bar B Q in Downtown Indianapolis. ā€œMy job

reinforced excellent customer service skills and taught me proper First Aid that I have used in emergency situations in my restaurant. If you enjoy helping others, lifeguarding is a great job.ā€ Jason began with Indy Parks as a lifeguard when he was 16 at Ellenberger Park and Garfield Park pools. After several years, he continued to gain experience in management when scheduling and training staff at Eagle Creek Park Beach.

Applicants for Indy Parks lifeguard positions must be Marion County residents 16 years or older, be able to pass a swimming test consisting of a 200-yard swim using front crawl or breast stroke, one-minute tread with hands out of the water, and successful retrieval of a 10-pound diving brick from 10 feet of water.
